The Chippewa County Genealogical Society has limited publications available for either purchase or distributed to members:

The Chippewa County Cemetery Index, published in 1998, contains 50,000 names transcribed from all of the tombstones in Chippewa County. It lists the location of the cemeteries, old and current names used by the cemeteries, and tells the history of all the cemeteries.
The price of the Index is currently $20.00 plus the cost of postage and handling which is approximately $7.50. Please email the Society asking specific mailing charges for a particular community in the U.S.A.
The Newsletter is published by the Society four times a year and distributed to all members and exchange partners. Notices of area workshops, state seminars, and national conferences are listed. The progress of on-going projects, new books purchased or gifted to the Society, computer updates, queries from out-of-state researchers and current articles of interest are printed to keep members up-to-date.

Research Policy

The Chippewa County Genealogical Society provides fee-based genealogical research servicesfor members and
non-members alike using the following research policies:

The Society provides a preferential research fee schedule for its members as a benefit of membership
Research will not begin until a fee for one hour of research has been received by the Society and specific research authorized.
Copies of documents will be priced in accordance with the CCGS copy fee schedule in effect at the time of the research request.
Postage and handling of the final report will be included in the final expense invoice for research services and will be paid by the research requestor.
The final report including copies will not be mailed or released until the invoice for genealogical services, copies and postage is fully paid.

Please contact the Society if you need more information about research fees and procedures including your name, address, telephone number and email address if available.
If an email address is not available, please include a SASE for Society use in responding.

Society volunteers will continue to provide assistance to those doing research in the Area History Center Library and will also answer simple factual questions by phone or
email at no charge.

The Area History Center and Museum building was formerly the Notre Dame Convent built in 1883.

The Chippewa County Historical and Genealogical Societies moved into their historic home in 1990.

The Chippewa County Genealogical Society, organized in 1980, is a nonprofit organization comprised
of over 175 members from Chippewa County (WI), the entire United States and several foreign countries.

The mission of the Chippewa County Genealogical Society is to provide education and assistance to
those who are tracing their family roots; to collect and maintain genealogical and historical materials;
and to provide access to all materials and educational programs for members and the general public.

Membership

Membership is open to anyone who wishes to further the purposes of the Society and
who will pay the necessary dues to become a voting member of the Chippewa County
Genealogical Society.

A Beginner's Packet, containing sample of materials and forms to assist in organizing
research, is sent to new members along with a copy of the current newsletter.

Current membership fees are as follows:

Individual - $15.00 per year
Family - $20.00 per year
Institution - $15.00 per year
Foreign - $15.00 per year PLUS the cost of first class postage to the country of the member. Please contact the Society for further information.

The Library

The Chippewa County Genealogical Society Library is located in the Area History Center,
123 Allen St., Chippewa Falls, WI 54729.

The Area History Center is open to the public every Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The telephone number is 715-723-4399.

Library materials include:

books and newspapers
cemetery index
census records
church records
city directories
ethnic research guides
index of naturalizations
marriage records
probate records
state and county maps
indexed obituaries

A photocopy machine, as well as microfiche readers and a microfilm readers with one printer
available for use.

Meetings

Meetings are held at the Area History Center located at 123 Allen St., Chippewa Falls, WI, at
10:00 a.m. on the fourth Saturday of the month, except in the months of June, July, and December.

In August of each year, members gather for an annual potluck picnic.

Members are encouraged to come at 9:00 a.m. to browse or do research on meeting days. The
library is open until 2:00 p.m. on meeting days.
